You Are Essential

You Are Essential

Do you know that you are Essential?

es·sen·tial is defined as something that is absolutely necessary; something that is extremely important. Crucial, key, vital – A MUST.

One of the things that I have discovered is that if I am essential, I must be intentional about taking care of myself.

Self-care is not selfish. Self-care is essential.  Say it with me…

You must make time to take care of you. We want to encourage, equip and empower you to take care of yourself spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. Each of these areas contributes to our overall health.

After all, if you don’t put on your oxygen mask first, you can’t help others when they need help. We are no good for our families, our callings, our businesses, our friends, our careers. We cannot give what we do not have.

Psalm 139 is a beautiful Psalm that I love. It talks to us about how intentionally God made each one of us. One verse that I love in particular is Psalm 139:14 TPT: I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!

God carefully and skillfully shaped us and created us before our mother even knew our father. Before we were born God already saw us and knew us. Not only did God know us but He fashioned us, He created us. He gave us our body type, our hair color, hair texture, eye color and even our personality.

I want you to be confident in declaring I AM WHO I AM. I realize that as women, we grow, we evolve, we mature, and we change, and that’s a good thing. However, as we change, we must learn how to embrace who we are throughout the whole process, not just when we “arrive”.

There are 5 Essential Ingredients to you recognizing you are essential and practicing self-care.

  1. Love for self. This sounds simple but a lot of us do not love ourselves. We may like ourselves, but do we love ourselves? Self-love is not easy, but self-love is essential to you fulfilling your life’s purpose. Love is patient; love is kind; love never gives up.  Be patient with yourself; be kind to yourself; do not give up on yourself (1 Corinthians 13)
  2. Confidence in self. We are all unique, special, and gifted by God to fulfill our purpose. When you have confidence in yourself, you believe in your abilities and you see your worth. Be confident in your gifts, your abilities, your strengths. Being confident in self is not just celebrating your strengths but also embracing your weaknesses.
  3. Acceptance of self. Accept that you are not perfect. We all have flaws, weaknesses, and yes, even problems. It’s ok to not be ok. Self-acceptance means accepting your whole self wholeheartedly without any judgements. It’s not only about embracing the good, positive, and valuable traits of oneself. But Self-acceptance is also about embracing the negative, less desirable, or even ugly parts of you. It is the acceptance of all your physical and emotional weaknesses that you probably try to deny. Self-acceptance is the ability to unconditionally value all parts of yourself. It’s ok to be strong, but it’s also ok to be vulnerable. It’s okay to be soft spoken,  but it’s also ok to speak out. It’s ok to unapologetically share your truth, your opinions, and your experience.Learning to accept yourself is more important than people accepting you. How you see yourself is how others will see you. As a woman thinks in her heart, so is she. Confidence is a beautiful garment to wear.“When you know yourself, you are empowered. When you accept yourself, you are invincible.”
  4.  Focus on accepting yourself before you try to fix yourself. This is how we become critical towards ourselves. Silence your inner critic.
  5. Value self. Don’t let unnecessary things feed insecurities within you or make you feel low. Don’t compare yourself. Remember, your uniqueness is always your biggest strength and is something which makes you stand out. View yourself as the essential character in your own story. What you value, you invest in. Don’t be sorry for who you are. You may not be for everyone. When you value self you are kind, forgiving, compassionate, and patient with yourself.

Girl, let your light shine! Don’t dim your light, shrink back, turn down opportunities, put yourself in a corner. Don’t be ashamed, apologize or try to change the essence of who you are. Speak well to and about yourself. Speak words of life to yourself and about yourself.

You are Essential so I want to close with this quote –

To all the women who are labeled:

aggressive keep being assertive
bossy keep on leading
difficult keep telling the truth
too much keep taking up space
awkward keep asking hard questions

If people put a label on you, choose to re-label. You should only wear what God calls you and who you are, not what others say about you.

Say it with me….I Am Who I Am!

During our 21 DAY FAST, I discovered that my purpose is ME. It has never been, but now in this place God has given me the time and space to turn my need to nurture inward. I need to be needed, and I need ME now. So I am making lifestyle changes to reinvent ME and I don’t feel selfish about it. Your message tonight (2/1/22), was confirmation of my purpose. I have been overthinking and constantly questioning God about what do you want me to do now that my life has changed. IT’S ABOUT ME. I have more time to spend in prayer and reading the Word, researching, but more than that, I have time to sit to hear from God.
Selfcare is my purpose because I am Essential. Thank you Pastor T for this encouraging message.
